The “3 free cases” allowance has been replaced with a £2,000 monetary allowance.
Under the new Financial Ombudsman Plans and Budget, the old three-free-cases rule is gone. Each business now gets a £2,000 allowance per year against FOS case fees, so every unresolved complaint that reaches FOS eats into the same pool. Motor finance alone is forecast to account for ~25% of FOS closed cases, and BNPL comes under FOS jurisdiction from 1st July 2026.
Companies that resolve directly via EvenStance, before a complaint escalates to FOS, stay inside the new allowance. The corporate portal exists to make that possible: respond promptly, document the trail, and close the complaint before it becomes a chargeable FOS case.
The Verified Badge
Companies that consistently respond to disputes, meet response deadlines, and reach fair outcomes earn our Verified badge. It's visible on your company profile and signals to consumers that you take complaints seriously.
