What the chemicals are and why they matter

BMHCA (butylphenyl methylpropional / lilial): Banned in cosmetics products across Great Britain and the EU. May harm the reproductive system and the health of the unborn child. Also a skin sensitiser.

Hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde: Also prohibited in cosmetic products. Allergen with skin sensitisation risk.

Both chemicals should not be present in any cosmetic product sold in the UK. Their presence is a breach of the Cosmetics Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 as retained in UK law.

How to get your refund

1. Check if your product is affected: only products with the specific barcodes listed in the recall are affected. Check at savers.co.uk/prodrecall or contact help@savers.co.uk

2. Return the product to any Savers Health and Beauty store.

3. You will be issued a full refund. No receipt is required for a safety recall.

Your legal rights

Cosmetics Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 (retained UK law): Both chemicals are prohibited. Selling cosmetics containing them is unlawful.

Consumer Rights Act 2015 s.9: Goods containing banned chemicals are not of satisfactory quality and fail the safety requirement.

Consumer Protection Act 1987 Part I: If these products caused skin reactions, allergic responses, or other harm, the manufacturer/importer may be strictly liable.

You are entitled to a full refund. If you experienced health symptoms, document them and consider a compensation claim for distress or medical costs.

Pregnant people who used affected products should consult their GP and mention BMHCA/lilial exposure from a recalled cosmetic product.
